Ovarian Cancer Awareness Coalition Event

The Cronin Foundation, National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC),   OCEAN at MGH and the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center once again combined resources to increase awareness of ovarian cancer during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.   Using public service announcements, a website, print and radio ads and outreach to older women and to college-age women athletes, the coalition reached a wider audience than ever before.

Event Co-Chairs Meg Vaillancourt and Ursula Liff led the audience, including Mayor Tom and Angela Menino, in honoring MA leaders for their outstanding commitment to the cause of ovarian cancer awareness.   This year's honorees were the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Massachusetts, accepted by Peter Meade; the Honorable Therese Murray; the Honorable Peter Koutoujian; and William Shea, OCEAN.   Each made or continues to make a singular contribution to the work of the coalition.

The campaign kicked off on an exciting note when the Ovarian Cancer Awareness banner was hung from Boston City Hall, thanks to Mayor Tom and Angela Menino.   Ads on television, radio and the internet alerted women to the symptoms of ovarian cancer, and transit and other signs reinforced the message.   Legislative sponsors, led by Rep. Peter Koutoujian, hung teal ribbons throughout the State House to encourage everyone to learn more about ovarian cancer, and ads appeared at MixFest and other events in the region.
