6th Anniversary Event
Blu at the Sports Club LA
Supporters, friends and Board members celebrated the Foundation's 6th Annual Fund Raiser at Blu on October 11, 2006 with Silent and Live Auctions. Nearly 100 people gathered to recognize our annual award winners and to raise funds to support women fighting ovarian cancer.
Foundation President Nancy Farrell opened the event and introduced a video summarizing the September Ovarian Cancer Awareness Campaign for 2006. The Cronin Foundation, National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) and OCEAN are the founding members of this campaign, which also includes the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. OCA's reach was broader in 2006 and reached a new audience, including college athletes, thanks to the leadership of Senator Therese Murray, a member of the Cronin Foundation Advisory Board, who was instrumental in including ovarian cancer in MA health care funding. Senator Murray was featured in the OCA video.
Advisory Board Honorary Chairman Tom Finneran recalled Pat Cronin's battle with ovarian cancer and toasted Pat and the work done in her memory. The Foundation gave awards to special friends, including:
John Donohue, Arbella Insurance - Pat's Friend Award, for his commitment to helping women with ovarian cancer - presented by Treasurer Lew Eisenberg.
Senator Fred Berry - Prevention Award, for his leadership on health care issues, particularly for those living with challenges in Massachusetts - presented by Senator Therese Murray.
During the silent auction, participants bid on glasses signed by Boston's sports, political and social leaders in memory of Pat Cronin. Glasses signed by MA women legislators, hockey figures and other Boston notables were popular with the bidders. Senator Robert Havern, acting as the live auctioneer, drew great interest - and donations - for a Boston Sports package, Red Sox/Yankee game tickets, a trip to St. John and a set of glasses signed by the MA House Speakers.
The Foundation is grateful to all of the participants and donors who contributed to the annual fundraising event.
