Sponsors First Cronin Ovarian Cancer Lecture and
Awards 2005 Grants
The
Cronin Foundation sponsored the First Cronin Lecture on
Ovarian Cancer and presented its 2005 Grants at an event
hosted by Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo
on April 5. Dr. Stephen A. Cannistra was the Cronin Lecturer.
Dr. Cannistra is Director of Gynecologic Oncology at Beth
Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Associate Professor
of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He described the
current state of ovarian cancer diagnosis and treatment
for the audience of supporters, Board members and grant
winners. Dr. Cannistra shared information about treatment
progress and research work on genetics and treatment protocols.
The lecture was moving and informative.
Members of the Board of Directors announced the award
of three grants after the lecture. The 2005 grant winners
included:
• $1,000 to June Bessette, RN, at the
UMass Memorial Hospice in Worcester or massage therapy
for ovarian cancer
patients
at the hospice.
• $2,000 to Cancer Connection, Florence, MA, for a
facilitator for its Ovarian Cancer Support Group.
• $10,000 to Dr. Susana Campos, Dana-Farber, for "A
Qualitative Exploratory Study of Young Women Diagnosed
with Early Stage Ovarian Cancer: A Focus on Fertility
Issues and Sexual Function.
